Lions Heat Up the Courts

G'day LMU tennis fans, we hope you have had a great week!

It's been another productive week for the team, with a lot of practice and conditioning. One of the benefits of playing at college is having coaches to provide feedback on ways to improve. This week, Brad and Aaron had us doing drills to improve on some parts of our game that let us down during our matches at Costa Mesa. Last week end the majority of the team played the future at Costa Mesa, around an hour away from LMU. It was another hot weekend. So hot that even the sun was looking for some shade and two trees were fighting over a dog.

The competition was tough and Nick, Todd and myself were unable to reach the second round. Felix and Othar were or on the other hand able to win their first match. Once again they came up against some quality opponents in the second round. It's a great chance to play some tough opponents and gauge where our games are at right now. This weekend we are heading to Irvine to play another Futures Tournament. We hope to gain more valuable match toughness and fitness. It's likely that senior Jack Zapala, who I like to call the mailman (because he always delivers), will be playing his first match for the fall. Jack had wrist surgery last year, so it is awesome to see him back firing down his canon serves and hitting his volleys crispier than KFC's chicken. Felix will be back next week to let everyone know how we played! It impresses me how well he writes considering English is not his first language.

I hope everyone treats themselves to a relaxing week end, you deserve it.
