Eight Lions Earn All-Academic Honors
Eight Lions in five different fall sports named to All-Academic Teams.

Los Angeles, Calif. -- The 2006 West Coast Conference Fall All-Academic teams honor some of the league's finest examples of the consummate scholar-athlete. Eight Loyola Marymount student-athletes were honored as members of the WCC fall All-Academic teams.
Katie Osborne, Joslyn Slovek and Whitney Temple represent LMU on the women's soccer All-Academic team. David Niemeyer was named to the Men's soccer All-Academic team, and Emily Day was named to the volleyball team. Laura Mickelson and Abby Fall are on the women's cross country All-Academic team, and men's cross country runner Jonathan MacNeil rounds out the group of Lions honored.
Osborne, Slovek and Temple helped LMU advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2006. Slovek was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Year, and earned First Team All-WCC honors. The junior goalkeeper has a 3.39 GPA. Defender Temple earned Second Team All-WCC honors in her final year with the Lions, and has a 3.25 GPA. Osborne was the team's second leading scorer, finishing the season with four goals and two assists. The Natural Science major has a 3.53 GPA.
Niemeyer earns All-Academic team honors for the third straight year. He recently graduated after 3.5 years with a degree in Political Science, earning a 3.83 GPA. He also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the second straight year. He scored three goals and added one assist for LMU in 2006.
Day, a sophomore, represented the Lions on the volleyball All-Academic team. She was named the WCC Player of the Week, and named to the ASU Tournament All-Tournament team. She averaged 3.27 kills and 2.87 digs per game. The mathematics major has a 3.49 GPA.
Mickelson added to her honors by earning a spot on the All-Academic team. The 2006 WCC Champion was LMU's first representative at NCAA Nationals, and was a USTFCCA All-Region selection. The junior has a 3.95 GPA as a Natural Science major. Teammate Fall also earns academic honors. She was named to the All-WCC First Team after placing ninth at the WCC Championships in 2006. She is a Communication Studies major with a 3.74 GPA.
MacNeil rounds out LMU's honorees. The junior Mechanical Engineering major earned WCC honorable mention honors after placing 14th at the WCC Championships. He led the Lions in the Stanford Invite 8K, and has a 3.60 GPA.
