Los Angeles, CA (Feb. 20) - It will be a busy weekend for the Loyola Marymount University Athletics Department, with Saturday, Feb. 21 serving as the hub of activity with six LMU-hosted contests taking place.

The main events for the day will be the basketball doubleheader between the Lions and rival Pepperdine. The women's basketball team will take on the Waves first at 5:00 p.m. The men's game will follow at 7:35 p.m. Both games will be at Gersten Pavilion and can be heard live on the Lions' Audio Network through KXLU 88.9 FM and

On the women's side the Lions enter the game a top the West Coast Conference with a 10-1 record in WCC play. They are riding a 10-game winning streak and enter the game with a two-game lead on second place Pepperdine with three games to play. With a win the Lions can claim their first regular season WCC title and the number one seed in the WCC tournament.

The men's game will be the 137th meeting between the two bitter rivals as the Lions enter the game as the only Southern California Division I institution with a winning record. Both teams are riding winning streaks, as the Lions have won two games in a row and are just one game out of fourth place in the WCC. The Waves are looking to further secure second place in the WCC with a three-game winning streak. The top four seeds in the WCC tournament earn a first-round bye with the top two seeds earning a bye in the first round and quarterfinals.

Basketball isn't the only thing going on at LMU as the baseball team will play a doubleheader at Page Stadium against New Mexico State starting at 11 a.m. The Lions are 3-2 to start the 2004 campaign and knocked off UCLA on Tuesday, 7-3. The teams will complete the three-game series with a game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The men's soccer team will also be in action as they continue their spring schedule. The Lions will take on the Los Angeles Galaxy at Sullivan Field at 1:00 p.m. Tickets for the men's soccer game against the Galaxy is a fundraiser for the men's soccer program with tickets selling for $5.

Also in action is the men's tennis team in a doubleheader at the Home Depot Center. The Lions will take on UC San Diego at 10:00 a.m. and then Claremont at 2:00 p.m. The Lions are playing at the Home Depot Center while the construction of the Tournament Court at the LMU Tennis Center is completed.

Also in action this weekend is the softball team at the UC Santa Barbara Tournament through Sunday.
