LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
On March 25, 2011, Loyola Marymount University hosted American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. LMU Athletics was represented with relay teams from women's cheer, men's water polo and a general athletics team. The relay kicked off with a speech from Coach John Loughran as an honorary survivor. After sharing his powerful story about his fight with cancer, Coach Loughran and his family led the first lap of the event.
LMU athletes walked laps around the Burn's Recreation Center basketball courts for 12 hours, and looked good doing it. Every athlete was outfitted in their team gear and made LMU Athletics a strong and visible team in the relay.
All said and done, LMU ended Relay for Life with just over $50,000 to help in the fight against cancer. SAAC alone raised over $500, and men's water polo was among the top fundraising teams.
