Los Angeles, CA (April 8, 2003) -- Loyola Marymount University has named women's tennis senior Penka Fileva the female student-athlete of the month and sophomore Jonathan Oller of the baseball team as the male student-athlete of the month for sports during competition in the month of March.
Each month during the academic calendar, the student-athlete advisory committee (S.A.A.C.) will chose a male and female student-athlete of the month whose performance best represents the traditions of Loyola Marymount University.
Oller had a tremendous month, hitting nine home runs and five doubles in 18 games, which included a pair of grand slams. While earning a pair of WCC Player of the Week awards, Oller led LMU regulars with a .391 batting average (27-of-69) to go along with a team-high 17 runs and 26 RBI with a slugging percentage of .855 (59 total bases).
