Los Angeles, CA -Loyola Marymount University continued to show its commitment to Athletics with the allocation of approximately 7,000 square feet of office and meeting space to Lion Athletics within the Dorothy and Thomas E. Leavey Center on the Westchester campus. The coaching staffs from 15 of the Lions' 21 varsity programs will make the move late this summer to the newly remodeled and modern Athletics Complex at the Leavey Center.
"The allocation of this space to our program is another signal of LMU's commitment to athletics," said Athletics Director Dr. William Husak. "The renovation and move of our coaches to the Leavey Center will be a major asset. The support of the University to Athletics continues to be the backbone of our current and future success. This allocation is a big part of our athletics' story that we can now better display to our recruits and current student-athletes."
The move to the Leavey Center will include a complete renovation of six suites to be used by men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, baseball, volleyball, softball, men's crew, women's rowing, men's and women's tennis, men's golf, men's and women's cross country/track.
The move of the coaches' office to the Leavey Center places athletics further into the heart of campus. The Leavey Center, erected in 1968, will continue to house the Ignation Center for Spirituality, the Collins Faculty and Alumni Center and the Leavey Hall chapel.
"The move of our coaches to Leavey fits the mission of LMU. The mission is the development of the whole person and this move puts athletics within view of all areas of campus," said Husak. "LMU is about the mind, body and spirit. In recruiting student-athletes to LMU, this is the perfect location to bring that message of mind, body and spirit to our student-athletes."
Each of the six suites will be renovated throughout the summer to include the latest in technology, accessories and office furniture. Each suite will include custom designed items with LMU's Lion logos and colors.
The move and renovation of Leavey is the first step of a renovation/improvement campaign by the Athletics Department. The campaign through the next several years will include new and renovated locker rooms, new weight room and training room.
