LMU Athletic Staff Grows with Two New Hires
Handeland, who will oversee game day promotions and overall marketing of the 17 varsity sports at LMU, is a graduate of Washington State University. Following here completion of her bachelor's of business degree in marketing in 1999, Handeland worked as a Marketing Coordinator at Sylvan S. Shulman Company, L.L.C. With the company, she coordinated the marketing for two outdoor shopping centers, including the overall development of holiday and event promotions.
Handeland, a native of Tacoma, Wash., in addition to her experience in consumer marketing, worked for the Tacoma Rainiers Baseball Club. With the Rainiers she worked as a marketing assistant where she was responsible for in-game promotions and the development of the Kid's Club.
Alkaly, a 1999 graduate of UC Santa Barbara, returns to his hometown of Los Angeles to serve as an assistant in the athletic media relations department. Alkaly spent the past year at Arizona State University's sports information office. He was primarily responsible for gymnastics and swimming and assisted with basketball and football.
Alkaly will handle the media relations for eight of the Lions' athletic programs, which include men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's water polo, aquatics, and women's softball.
