Volleyball, Soccer and Men's Water Polo to Get 2001-02 Season Underway

Los Angeles, Calif. (August 2, 2001)-- Loyola Marymount University student-athletes began to arrive this week on campus, as training for the 2001-02 Fall Sports season is right around the corner. With the sports season set to begin, LMU fans will have the opportunity to catch all of the action. And you DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS SEASON!
Tickets to all Fall sports events are now on sale, which include nine women's soccer contests, 11 men's soccer, 16 women's volleyball and 15 men's water polo. The action will begin with the men's soccer team taking on Cal State Dominguez Hills in a scrimmage August 19 at Sullivan Field starting at 2 p.m.
The women's soccer team will start their season in an exhibition contests on August 25. They will take on Fresno State in a scrimmage at Sullivan starting at 1 p.m.
Both the men's and women's soccer scrimmages will cost $6 for adult general admission and $4 for kids under 12.
The women's volleyball team was to open their season in a scrimmage against a team of former LMU players in the annual Alumni match. However, that game has been cancelled and the Lions will start their season in the Colorado Powerbar Invitational on Aug. 31.
The men's water polo team will host their first home game at the Aquatics Complex in the Burns Recreation Center on September 12 at 3 p.m. against BYU-Hawaii.
All four fall sport programs that host events at LMU include tournaments that bring even more games to campus. The men's soccer team will host the Fila Cup from Aug. 31 - Sept. 2 (featuring LMU, Air Force, Fresno State and UC Riverside) and the LMU Fall Classic on Sept. 21-23 (featuring LMU, UC Irvine, Harvard and San Diego). The women's team will host their Fila Cup on Sept. 14-16 (featuring LMU, Kentucky, USC, and Wake Forest).
The women's volleyball team will host their annual LMU Volleyball Classic on Sept. 7-8 at Gersten Pavilion. This year the tournament will feature LMU, Arizona State, Indiana and New Mexico.
Men's water polo will host the LMU Invitational on Sept. 15-16 and will feature LMU, UC Davis, Princeton, UMass and Cal Baptist. The Lions will also host the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Championships at Burns Recreation Center on Nov. 16-18. The Championships will determine the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, which LMU will host the following year in December of 2002.
Tickets for men's and women's soccer are $6 and for children under 12 they are $4. Children in their AYSO uniforms are $2. The views at Sullivan Field will be some of the best in the soccer-rich West Coast Conference, as new bleachers are being installed that will eventually sit 2,000 Lion Fans.
Women's volleyball and men's water polo tickets are the same as soccer. A special ticket price for children involved with local club teams can get tickets for $2 if arranged in advance.
