New Facility Welcomed to Family
Lions' dedicate new Lions' Athletic Center in formal ceremony on Sept. 13.
Sept. 19, 2011
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Since it opened in April of 2011, the Lions Athletic Center has become a centerpiece of the athletic facilities of Loyola Marymount University and in the process has become one of the busiest with the more than 450 student-athletes visiting it daily. Last week, it was officially welcomed to the LMU family in a formal dedication held on Sept. 13.
The brand new 16,000 square foot facility is home to the Chad and Ginni Dreier Strength and Conditioning Center, the ADG Conference Room overlooking LMU soccer's Sullivan Field and many other pieces that continue the Lions' mission to have some of the best facilities on the west and in the West Coast Conference.
The dedication was hosted by LMU Athletics Director Dr. William Husak. President David Burcham was on hand and also spoke at the event. Chad Dreier also spoke and following a prayer from Fr. Joe Labrie, SJ, the Dreier family blessed the new building.
"Eight years ago, we did a tour of our facilities and the question was asked `why would any student-athlete want to come here.' With the completion of this building I don't think there is a single athlete who can say that now," said Husak. "In fact when this building opened up, the first two student-athletes who saw the new weight room committed to attend LMU."
The 16,000-square foot facility is located between Albert Gersten Pavilion and Sullivan Field, and brings much needed space to the more than 450 student-athletes who participate on one of the 21 varsity athletic teams at LMU.
The main piece of the building is the new weight training facility. Named by the Chad and Ginni Dreier Family, the weight room is more than 4,000-square feet and is one of the top training facilities in the West Coast Conference. The Chad and Ginni Dreier Strength and Conditioning Center includes 12 power lift power racks, 58 pull-up bars, a full set of Iron Grip Dumbbells, brand new bars and bumper plates from Usaka Barbell, and Infinity Flooring with custom insets with logos.
In addition to the weight room, there are locker room facilities for baseball, softball, women's soccer and men's soccer. Also within the building is a pair of executive conference rooms and office space for the strength and conditioning coaches and for the athletic facility operations staff.
The ADG Fraternity has named the larger of the two conference rooms, which overlooks Sullivan Field. The building also houses the LMU Ticket Office, a new laundry room, and storage facilities.
