Betty Werner Joins LMU as Associate Athletic Director
The 17-sport athletic program at LMU will receive a boost from the inside, as Werner will oversee the day-to-day internal operations of the NCAA Division I program. This will include overseeing the installation of a brand new scoreboard system in Gersten Pavilion and the development of a long-term facility improvement plan. Her past two positions were in similar roles at Arkansas State the past year-and-a-half and at Eastern Kentucky from 1996-1999.
Werner was appointed to the inaugural NCAA Division I Womens Basketball Committee for a five year term and was the Midwest Regional Chairperson. In addition, she currently serves as an ex-officio member of the board of directors for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators.
Following a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tulsa and a Masters of Education from the University of Missouri, Werner went onto serve as the womens athletic director at Drake University from 1974-79. She was promoted to associate athletic director in 1979 and served in that role for eight years. She left collegiate athletics for eight years, working for the Arizona Athletic Club from 1987-88, Club Corp in Dallas, Texas, until 1993 and then ARAMARK Leisure Services, Inc., in Denver, Colo., prior to her position at Eastern Kentucky.
