October Starts With a Bang

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- October will come thundering into the 2009-10 sports season, as LMU welcomes crucial conference battles on to the bluff, including a pair of ranked opponents and a showdown with a defending WCC champion. All the action begins in Gersten Pavilion tonight, Thursday, with women's volleyball taking on No. 20 San Diego.

Women's volleyball and men's soccer open the West Coast Conference season this weekend at home. In addition to USD, women's volleyball will also host Saint Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m.

As for men's soccer, they welcome the defending WCC champs, USF, to Sullivan Field on Friday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m.

Wrapping up a big conference weekend with be the fifth-ranked men's water polo team taking on Western Water Polo Association foe and 12th-ranked UC Davis at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Lions are 5-0 against WWPA foes and have won 22 straight heading into Saturday's showdown.
