Los Angeles, CA (Oct. 12) - Let the madness begin. The annual right of passage to basketball season, Madness at Midnight, will hit Loyola Marymount University on Friday, Oct. 15 as both the men and women's basketball teams begin their seasons with practice the following Saturday.

In what has become the largest student event on the LMU campus, Madness at Midnight will get the basketball season started in grand fashion with an evening full of activities. The evening will begin with the LMU volleyball team taking on Portland in West Coast Conference action at 7:00 p.m.

After a quick transformation, the court will be ready for some Madness. Doors will re-open for Madness at Midnight at 10:15 p.m. with the event getting started around 10:30 p.m. The event has grown to attract nearly 3,000 students with more than 500 other LMU fans packing Gersten Pavilion.

This year's event will once again feature the introduction of both basketball teams as the men are coming off their best season in eight years and women enter the new season as defending WCC champions. Both head coaches, Steve Aggers and Julie Wilhoit, will speak during the event.

In what has become a traditional part of the night is the team dance competition. Nine of the 17 varsity sports at LMU will compete in a two-minute dance competition. Competing in this year's dance-off will be the defending champion women's basketball team (yes, they won that too), the men's basketball team, swimming, men's golf, women's water polo, baseball, volleyball, men and women's crew.

Also performing at this year's Madness at Midnight will be Kuumba Beatz, IB Modern and the two winners from the annual greek lip sync contest, Lambda Chi Alpha and Kappa Alpha Theta.
