Lions Top GSR Numbers Again
LMU set a new high in terms of GSR for the third straight year.
For the third straight year, Loyola Marymount University registered a new all-time high institutional Graduation Success Rate (GSR), this time posting a mark of 92 percent in the latest figures released earlier today by the National Collegiate Athletics Association. The new mark tops last year’s 91 percent, which had previously bested 2013’s 90 percent.
This year marks the third straight time in the 11-year history of the metric that LMU has reached or exceeded 90 percent, and the seventh straight year the campus has posted a mark of 88 percent or higher.
GSR data indicates the number of student-athletes earning a degree within six years. The NCAA developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. The Graduation Success Rate includes transfer students and student-athletes who leave in good academic standing, unlike the federal rate, which does not count transfers. The GSR also accounts for mid-year enrollees and is calculated for every sport.
Overall, LMU's GSR rate of 92 percent is six percent better than the NCAA average of 86 percent – the highest rate ever. In this most recent data, every team at LMU earned GSRs above 80 percent, including 10 with marks of 90 percent or better.
Six LMU teams registered perfect 100 GSR marks, including men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s water polo, women’s rowing and women’s swimming. The perfect score is the fourth straight for women’s water polo, and the second straight for men’s and women’s tennis.
Including swimming, rowing, and men’s water polo reaching a perfect mark this year, 10 Lion teams met or exceeded their score from last year.
Of the 24 Division I schools in California, LMU's rate of 92 percent is fourth overall. The West Coast Conference shows well in the GSR standings, as the Lions are one of seven member schools that are at or above 90 percent.
