Jordan Alcantar was recently hired in sports performance, while Jill O’Brien was added in athletic training.
As a sports performance coordinator with LMU, Alcantar oversees the strength and conditioning program for the women’s basketball, volleyball, men’s and women’s track and cross country, men’s tennis, men’s and women’s water polo, and cheer teams.
Prior to joining the Lions, Alcantar served as strength coach at Cal Poly Pomona, where he had previously played baseball as a student-athlete from 2007 to 2010. Prior to taking the job at Cal Poly Pomona, Alcantar had spent four years in the strength and conditioning field, previously working with USC and Mike Boyle's Strength and Conditioning.
Alcantar is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), is Strong First Certified, a USA-Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach, and owns a Battling Ropes Certification, amongst others.
While working in his various strength and conditioning roles, Alcantar has taught and applied weight training, running, agility, conditioning, and plyometric exercises. He has worked with athletes on Olympic lifting and explosive training techniques. He also helped to train in core stabilization, speed development, and linear and lateral movement enhancement.
Alcantar received his bachelor's degree in exercise science with an emphasis in human performance from Cal Poly Pomona in 2010. He then completed his coursework for his Master's of Science in kinesiology from Cal State Fullerton.
