Cheerleading Places Third at Nationals

Feb. 14, 2007

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The LMU cheer squad placed third in the small co-ed division at the 2007 USA Collegiate Nationals last weekend at the Cashman Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The Lions advanced to the finals for the first time ever with a strong performance on Sunday, and finished behind the University of Oklahoma and Boise State in the finals on Monday.

It is just the third year that LMU has competed at Nationals, and the first time that the Lions have advanced to the finals.

"We had some tough competition this year but after their amazing performance in the preliminary competition on Sunday I had no doubt they would be Top 5 in finals on Monday," said Cheer coach Travis Neese.

The squad is young, with just two seniors, and competed against several top schools from around the country. LMU's 2 minute and 30 second non stop routine included full squad tumbling, Elite stunts and Pyramids along with advanced level basket tosses.

"This team worked so hard for this! They have set a new standard for LMU Cheer with a 3rd place finish and a National Title," Neese concluded.
