Assistant Coach - Novice Women

Shelle Orem begins her first season with LMU crew, primarily coaching the novice women.

Orem is a world-class athlete, having been a 7-time National Champion in Junior Cycling and a 2-time competitor at the Junior Cycling World Championships. Shelle began her rowing career in college at Humboldt State University, where she still holds the women's 2000 meter ergometer record.

After one year at Humboldt, Orem transferred to the University of California, Berkeley and continued her success as a rower. Racing for the Cal Bears, Shelle placed 3rd in the Varsity Eight at the 2002 NCAA Championships and was a Jessup-Whittier Cup Champion at the 2003 San Diego Crew Classic. In 2002, Orem was named to the Under-23 National Team and competed for the US in the straight four, placing fourth at the 2002 U23 World Championships in Genoa, Italy.

Orem graduated from UC Berkeley in 2003 as a recipient of the Neufeld Award, which goes to the student-athlete with the highest GPA. Shelle began her coaching career with the Marina Aquatic Center Junior rowing program, where she spent 2 years coaching novice women and men.

In her free time, she is pursuing a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Pepperdine University.
