Lions Defend Berg Cup Title
The LMU women's rowing team continued its successful streak Saturday, defending its title a the Berg Cup, hosted by Orange Coast College in Newport Beach.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Fresh off a dual win over Gonzaga last week, the LMU women's rowing team continued its successful streak Saturday, defending its title a the Berg Cup, hosted by Orange Coast College in Newport Beach.
The Lions, who swept the variety 8+, second varsity 8+ and varsity 4+ in 2012, claimed defense of the Cup title with a convincing 7.7 second victory in the variety 8+. LMU also won the second varsity 8+ and placed third in the varsity 4+.
"It was great to see the women of LMU defend the Berg Cup that we reclaimed last spring, said LMU Director of Rowing Vaclav Kacir. "We didn't just win the Cup, but we also showed notable improvement over last year. We continue to progress every time out and (Saturday) was a great day for our team."
The V8+ boat placed first in a time of 6:45.5, followed by UC Santa Barbara (6:3.2), OCC (7:03.7), UC Irvine (7:12.3) and Chapman (8:27.0).
The Lions' 2V8+ finished in a time of 7:05.2, well out in front of second-place UC Santa Barbara (7:24.8) third-place UCI (7:38.8) and fourth-place OCC (7:42.7).
Rounding out the day was an 8:11.4 third-place finish in the V4+. Cal State Long Beach won the race in 7:47.7 and OCC was second in 8:09.0.
Up next for LMU is the San Diego Crew Classic on April 6-7. Both the men's and women's teams will be competing in the meet.
