Four Lion Rigs Advance to Grand Finals

WIRA Saturday Complete Results GOLD RIVER, Calif. - All four men's and women's Lion boats competing in preliminary heats at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships Saturday advanced to Sunday's Grand Finals at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The lone women's race for LMU on Saturday was the varsity eight. The Lions finished third in their heat in a time of 7:12.0 behind first-place Sacramento State (6:48.6) and second-place Stanford (6:50.7). Sunday's Grand Final will include LMU, Sacramento State, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's, Stanford and UC Davis. LMU's men competed in a trio of preliminary heats on Saturday, placing second in their heat in both the varsity four (6:59.5) and pair (7:25.3), while also placing third in the novice four (7:15.9). Sunday's varsity four Grand Final will include LMU, Lewis & Clark, Western Washington, UCLA, Cal and Long Beach State. The field for the novice four Grand Final includes LMU, Western Washington, Orange Coast College, UC Davis, Seattle Pacific and Sacramento State. In the pair Grand Final, LMU will race against Humboldt State, Seattle, Chapman, Cal and San Diego State.
