LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU crew team will face its toughest field yet, competing at the San Diego Crew Classic this weekend. The varsity men are undefeated on the season and are looking to win the Cal Cup. The varsity women are competing in the invitation-only Jessop Whitter Cup race. The women's JV eight and both men and women novice boats will also compete against top competition this weekend.

Here's a look at each race:

VARSITY MEN:
The undefeated men's team is pushing for a victory in the Men's Cal Cup. Heats are Saturday morning, 7:40am, with the top 2 teams from each heat advancing to the Grand Final on Sunday at 11:10am. Second and Third place finishers in each heat race in the Petite Final Sunday at 9:30am. LMU's men are receiving votes in the first national poll of the season.

VARSITY WOMEN:
LMU's women's team will race against several of the top 20 teams in the nation in the invitation-only Jessop Whittier Cup. The Lions gained entry into this event by winning the Women's Cal Cup in 2004. There are two heats for this race, with the Lions in the second heat at 8:50am on Saturday. The top three finishers from each heat will advance to the Grand Final on Sunday at 11:35pm, with 3rd through 5th place finishers racing in the Petite Final Sunday at 9:40am.

JV WOMEN:
The second varsity eight will compete in the Women's JV event. They are up against several top-20 teams, as well as fellow WIRA Competitors San Diego, Sacramento State and San Diego State. There are three heats for this event with LMU racing in the second heat at 10am on Saturday. The top two finishers from each heat race in the Grand Final on Sunday at 10:40am, the 3rd and 4th place teams racing in the Petite Final Sunday at 9am, and places 5 and 6 will race again on Saturday in the 3rd Level Final at 3:30pm.

NOVICE MEN:
Novice Men will race in one of four heats on Saturday morning at 9:15am. The top finishers from each heat as well as the next two fastest times advance to the Grand Final on Sunday at 10am. The Petite Final is Sunday at 8:30am, with 3rd and 4th Level Finals late Saturday afternoon.

NOVICE WOMEN:
Novice women will also be in one of four heats Saturday morning at 11:10am. The top finishers from each heat as well as the next two fastest times advance to the Grand Final on Sunday at 9:50am. Petite Finals are also on Sunday at 8:20am, with 3rd and 4th Level Finals on Saturday at 3:50pm and 4:10pm respectively.

Crew staging, viewing and the finish line is held at the Crown Point Shores on Mission Bay. Admissions for the event is $7 a day per person or $10 for both days, children 13 and under are free. Preferred parking is $10 per day and free parking is located at Vacation Isle with free shuttle service to Crown Point.

Directions:
From Interstate 5, Southbound
Take the Balboa and Garnet Exit. Go right (west) on Garnet Street to a Y junction and stay left on Balboa. Where Balboa merges with Grand, turn left onto Lamont Street. Go straight (south) on Lamont to the "Yield" sign at Crown Point Drive. Go straight ahead; trailer parking is down the hill to the left and car parking is to the right.

From Interstate 5 Northbound
Exit I-5 at Grand and Garnet. Turn left (west) at the first left (Grand), then left on Lamont and straight ahead to the "Yield" sign at Crown Point Drive. Go straight ahead; trailer parking is down the hill to the left and car parking is to the right.
