Men's Crew Earns Win in Lundberg Cup

Marina del Rey, CA (March 29) - The Loyola Marymount University men's crew team competed against UCLA for the Buy Lundberg Memorial Cup at Ballona Creek in Marina del Rey on Saturday. The race between the two Marina rivals saw the Lions earn a first place finish in the Novice 8 race while falling in a tight race in the Varsity 8.

In the novice race, the Lions too the lead at the 500-meter mark after the teams got off to an even start. LMU would continue to pull away to win by eight seconds, finishing in a time of 6:24.3.

In the varsity race, the teams once again started even and were stroke for stroke for the first 1000 meters. However, the Bruins used a mid-race surge to earn the 2003 Guy Lundberg Memorial Cup.

Both the men's and women's team for the Lions will participate in the San Diego Crew Classic at Mission Bay on Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6.
