Men to Row at USC Invitational
Lions take on USC, UCSB, and Sacramento State in four events
April 11, 2008
LMU's men's crew team will be in action this weekend as it heads to Port of Los Angeles for the USC Invitational on Saturday. The Lions will enter boats in four events as they take on intercollegiate opponents from Sacramento State, UC Santa Barbara, and USC.
"After our results at the San Diego Crew Classic, we are looking for a huge improvement in our times this week," Men's Varsity Coach Brooks Jones said. "We made a line-up change in the varsity 8 and feel that we are much faster than we represented last weekend."
The day opens at 9 a.m. with the varsity 8 race for the George Gordon Cup. LMU's lineup of cox Whitney Powell, Mike Wither, Scott Wike, David Cronin, Mark Stellner, Patrick Callan, Landon Storaasli, Dominic Leone, and Jordan Perez will face two boats from USC as well as UCSB and Sacramento State.
The novice 4 event follows at 9:20 a.m. and will see the Lions enter two boats against UCSB and Sacramento State.
In the varsity pair event at 9:40 a.m., LMU's team of Scott Wike and David Cronin will take to the water for the first time since winning the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association championship last season. The race will give the pair a good tune-up for the WIRA finals in three weeks.
LMU will also send out two boats in the varsity 4 event at 10 a.m. The "A" boat will be the true varsity 4 lineup of cox Nick Llanos, Miles Dobbyn, Hamilton Hiatt, Hansen Perkins, and John Landwehr while the "B" boat will be a composite boat made up of mostly lightweight rowers. That boat will contain cox Whitney Powell, Landon Storaasli, Mike Wither, Mark Stellner, and Dominic Leone.
