LOS ANGELES - LMU's men's and women's rowing squads head to Rancho Cordova, Calif., Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 to take part in the 2013 Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on Lake Natoma.

While WIRA's will likely wrap up the men's season, the regatta marks a key tune-up for the women's squad, which still has the 2013 West Coast Conference Championship coming up on May 18.

The Lion women will compete in the varsity 8+, junior varsity 8+ and varsity 4+ this weekend, facing a field that includes numerous WCC opponents. The V8+ entries include WCC rivals Gonzaga, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara along with Sacramento State, San Diego State, Seattle and Stanford. The JV8+ field includes Sac State, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's, San Diego State and Santa Clara while LMU's V4+ will face off against Gonzaga, Saint Mary's and San Diego State.

The women's V8+ will compete in preliminary heats on Saturday morning with the Lions drawing Sac State, Gonzaga and Santa Clara in heat one. The Grand Final on Sunday at 12:20 p.m. will be the final event of the meet.

The women's JV8+ and V4+ will compete in finals only with the V4+ race scheduled for 8:10 a.m. on Sunday and the JV8+ scheduled for 10:50 a.m. on Sunday.

LMU's men will compete in the varsity 4+, novice 4+, lightweight novice 4+ and pairs. In a field of 19 crews, the V4+ has drawn heat three (of three) on Saturday at 8:40 a.m. and will face UC Santa Barbara, San Diego, Seattle, Seattle Pacific and USC.

 

 

The men's novice 4+ begins in heat one (of three) at 8:40 a.m. against UCLA, Pacific Lutheran, USC, Seattle Pacific, Chapman and Western Washington. The lightweight 4+ race is a finals only, scheduled for 8:20 a.m. on Sunday. Along with LMU, the four-team field includes Western Washington, Cal Maritime and Orange Coast College.
