LMU's Women's Varsity 4 Places First in Petite Final at Miller Cup.
April 29, 2002 Los Angeles, CA - The Loyola Marymount University women's crew competed at the Norman Miller Cup on Saturday, April 27 in Ballona Creek. LMU's Varsity 4 placed first in the Petite Final, while the Novice 4 and 8 took second in their Petite Finals. The Varsity 8 boat raced in the Grand Final with a chance to bring home the Miller Cup Championship, however they finished third to San Diego State and The University of San Diego. Next, the Lions' rowers will race for the WCC Championship on Friday, May 3 at Lake Natoma in Sacramento, CA. LMU has never finished higher than 3rd at the WCC Championships. The Gonzaga Bulldogs are the current reigning champions. While only the women will compete for the official championships in Novice 8, Varsity 4 and 8, the West Coast Conference men's rowers will race one Varsity 8 boat for an unofficial conference champion. On Sunday and Sunday the Lions' men and women rowers will compete at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta. LMU will race boats in women's and men's novice and varsity 4 and 8. The men will also race in the men's pair on Sunday.

Friday's Schedule: WCC Championships
Saturday and Sunday: WIRA Regatta Sunday's Schedule depends on how each boat places in individual heat on Saturday. The finals will run from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. LMU's Men's Pair will race in the only race for that event on Sunday at 9:10 a.m.
