Third-year head coach Dr. Vaclav Kacir has filled the vacant assistant coaching position within the LMU rowing program, hiring Magdalena Jankowska as the full-time assistant. No stranger to the LMU program, Jankowska has spent the last two seasons serving as a volunteer assistant with the Lions.
"Magda brings a great wealth of rowing experiences," Kacir said. "She understands what it takes to be a top student-athlete, and over the last two years has already been a great role model for the women at LMU. I am very excited to have Magda joining our staff full time, and making an even greater impact on our team."
Jankowska has been rowing since 1999, beginning with the Polish Club WTW Wloclawek. From 2000-07, she rowed for the Polish National Team, winning 14 medals at the Polish National Rowing Championships, and four more at the Polish Indoor Rowing Championships. She also won a pair of bronze medals at the 2004 Junior World Championship (Banyoles, Spain) and 2006 World Championship U23 (Hazewinkel, Belgium).
"I am very excited to work with such a dedicated team, and I am looking forward to an amazing season and sharing this experience with others," Jankowska said. "After spending two years with the student-athletes and getting to know the team better, I have come to realize that I just acquired my dream job."
From 2005-09, Jankowska competed for USC, leading the Trojans to their first-ever varsity eight Pac-10 Conference Championship in 2007 and a 5th-place finish as a team at the NCAA Women's Rowing Championships that same year. Jankowska, who helped the Trojans advance to the NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships in four straight years, earned six gold medals at The Head of the American Regatta in the collegiate category. A 2007 Pac-10 All-Conference selection, Jankowska also earned CRCA All-West Region first team honors in 2007.
Jankowska graduated from USC with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. She is married and has one son.
"I am looking forward to working with Coach Kacir, who has extraordinary knowledge and experience on the national and international level," Jankowska said on being named a full-time assistant. "I believe together we can create a great experience for the Lion athletes and their fans."
