Lions Claim Four Gold Medals at Beach Sprints

The LMU men's crew earned four Gold Medals at the Beach Sprints ergometer race in Long Beach on Saturday, February 1.
LMU's walk-on novices got spirited competition in the first 700 meters from a very determined Cal State Long Beach squad before pulling away to secure Gold, Silver and Bronze amongst the lightweights and Gold and Bronze amongst the heavyweights. Harry Husting won the lightweight title while Cody Warrington took home the honor in the heavyweight division.
With no outside competition for LMU's upperclassmen, men's head coach Peter Mallory had his team focus on setting personal bests for the year. The overall team result was an average improvement of more than 7.6 seconds. Jordan Young earned top billing amongst the lightweights, while Quin Thames took first competing against the heavyweights. For Thames, a two-year captain, the gold was his fourth at the Beach Sprints in as many years.
LMU Rowing returns to the water on March 7 when the women host San Diego at 7 a.m.
