Men's Varsity Four, Varsity Pair Win Gold at WIRAs
LMU's varsity four and varsity pair won gold at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships.

LMU's men's varsity four and varsity pair won gold at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships being held at Lake Natoma in Sacramento, Calif. over the weekend. The Lions, who were honored with the Team Efficiency Trophy at the conclusion of the races, also placed second in the novice lightweight four and novice four on Sunday.
After posting a time of 6:47 to win the first preliminary heat, LMU won the Grand varsity four with a time of 6:42, beating Santa Clara's boat by three seconds. The varsity pair turned in a time of 7:44 in the prelims en route to taking Gold in the Grand Final on Sunday.
The silver-medal finish in the lightweight four saw LMU turn in a time of 7:!4 to place behind UCSB at 7:07. The novice four race was won by Western Washington University (7:12), as the Lions finished a close second with a time of 7:16 - a five-second improvement from its first-place win in the prelim.
On the women's side, LMU competed in four Grand Finals, including finishing fourth in the women's pair with a time of 8:42. The time was an impressive improvement over LMU's second-place finish in the Saturday prelim of 9:16. LMU also fielded a boat in the Grand Finals of the varsity four, varsity eight and second varsity eight.

LMU will now prepare for a return trip to Sacramento and Lake Natoma on May 17 for the West Coast Conference Championships.
