Rowing to Hold Open Tryouts, No Experience Necessary

Aug. 7, 2016

The LMU men's and women's rowing teams will be holding open tryouts for walk-ons this fall. We are looking for great athletes to try our sport - no previous rowing experience is needed to try out. We have had a number of former walk-ons compete at the World Championships for the United States at the Under 23 and Senior National Team level, and we are looking to continue building on this tradition.

What: Walk-on open tryout information meeting
Who: The best athletes on campus (NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE NEEDED)
When: Tuesday, August 30th at 7:30pm (Women); Thursday, September 1st at 7:30pm (Men)
Where: Lions Athletic Center (LAC) - Map at bottom of page

Although we have a number of recruited athletes in the program, more than half of our team are walk-ons who first learned the sport here at LMU. In this year's Olympics, half the United States women's team learned to row in college! We are confident that there are athletes with national team potential on our campus and we want them to tryout.

We are a Division 1, NCAA, Varsity sport that competes in the West Coast Conference. We are looking for athletes who are competitive and want to help our team contend for conference championships and compete at the NCAA Championships. We have a walk-on team that will be competing against first-year rowers from schools all over the country. It is a great opportunity to be part of something bigger than yourself and represent LMU on a national stage. Our walk-ons become eligible for scholarship consideration starting their second year in the program.

We will be holding an information meeting for all those interested in learning more about our team on Tuesday, August 30th at 7:30pm in the Lions Athletic Center for women and Thursday, September 1st at 7:30pm in the Lions Athletic Center for men. If you are interested, please fill out the student-athlete medical packet and bring to the meeting. The medical packet can also be downloaded by visiting the link under "Walk-On Info" at the top of the LMU rowing page at
