Rowing Returns to the Water for Saturday’s Newport Chase
The Lions will enter one Varsity 8 into the men’s race and two Varsity 8’s into the women’s race.
LOS ANGELES – Both Loyola Marymount rowing teams will be competing on Saturday at the Newport Chase hosted by Orange Coast College (OCC). The 4,800 meter time-trial format race will begin at 7:15 a.m. for the men and 7:35 a.m. for the women in Newport Harbor.
The Lions will enter one Varsity 8 into the men’s race and two Varsity 8’s into the women’s race. Following the race, the men’s Varsity 8 will scrimmage with UCLA, UC Irvine, and OCC at 8am.
Among the teams entered on the men’s side along with LMU are OCC, UC Irvine, UCLA and Long Beach State. The women’s race features LMU, OCC, UCI, Long Beach State and Chapman.
The course will start near the west tip of Balboa Island, and will round Lido Isle to starboard. The Finish line will be located at the end of Lido Channel, there will be an official’s boat marking the Finish.
LMU will launch out of UC Irvine’s boathouse (Shellmaker Rd, Newport Beach), with spectators encouraged to watch 1,000m from the finish at the Orange Coast College boathouse (1801 West Coast Hwy, Newport Beach). Directions from LMU can be found here.
