Vorgitch Sets LMU Record in 3,000M Steeple

Michael Vorgitch set a school record in the 3,000m steeplechase, Sheree Shea won the women's 5,000m and every competing Lion achieved either a season or career best Friday at the Occidental Distance Carnival.

Briefly... Lance Capel is in his first season with LMU Cross Country and Track & Field...

High School... graduate of Dana Hills High School... ran cross-country for 4 years and track for 3 years under head coach Tim Butler... was captain of his cross country & track teams his junior and senior years... named All-Orange County in cross-country for his junior and senior years... All-South Coast League in cross-country during his sophomore season... All-CIF in cross-country his junior year... ran 3-mile in 14:51... team won Orange County championship, state runner-up, and CIF final runner up in cross-country... received Best Captain award, Character award twice, and Varsity Most Improved award... in track, 3-year starter... named All-Orange County junior and senior year... received All-CIF Division I honors... ran 800m in 2:00, 1600m in 4:21, 3200m in 9:17... received Best Dolphin Award in track... two-time league champ and two-time Orange County champ... played one year of baseball under coach Joe Kuo... starter at second base, catcher and pitcher... named to Superintendent's Honor Roll (6 times), Principal's Honor Roll, 5-time scholar athlete, and Dolphin Pride Silver Award winner... competed against fellow freshman Ryan Vargas in high school... covered in the OC Varsity...

Personal... Lance Michael Capel was born July 19, 1994 to parents Arleta Mastropaolo and Lance Capel in Redlands, CA... he has two brothers and two sisters... volunteered with Dolphin Pride community and school service, the California Scholarship Federation, Coast Hills Community Church, and as a speaker at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes... considered Columbia, UC Davis, UCLA, Washington, Dartmouth, Westmont and the University of Colorado at Boulder before deciding to attend LMU... chose LMU because he loved the campus, the cross country and track teams, LMU's academics and the fact that it has a strong athletic training program... an athletic training major.
