ORINDA, Calif. - Sophomore Danielle Shanahan set a school record in the outdoor 3,000m and the LMU women set a new mark in the distance medley relay for the second straight year as both LMU men's and women's track teams opened the 2015 outdoor season at the West Coast Quadrangular and West Coast Relays held at Miramonte High School.

In all, 18 of the 32 Lions who competed in the 3k set career best times while all but six improved on their 3k times from a time trial three weeks ago.

Competing against runner from fellow West Coast Conference schools San Francisco, Santa Clara and Saint Mary's, Shanahan was the overall winner in the 3k, setting an LMU record of 9:32. The previous best mark of 9:36 was set by Tara Erdmann in 2012.

Brandon Vientos was the top finisher for LMU in the men's 3k, placing fourth overall in 8:28.

The Lion women also took top honors in the DMR (consisting of a 1,200m, 400m, 800m and 1,600m), finishing in a school record time of 11:49.9. The quartet of Shanahan, Taylor Paschen, Kayla de Bondt and Grace Graham-Zamudio topped last year's record-setting time by 10 seconds.

The young men's team continued to show signs of what is to come over the next few years as the DMR team of freshmen Christopher Fredlund, Joel Kramer, Nicolas Wells and Harry Loasby finished one second behind the Lions `A' team.

The Lions are back in action Saturday, March 7, competing at the Cal State LA Invitational.
