2009 LMU Track Results

Malibu, Calif. - The Loyola Marymount Men's and Women's Track and Field teams were back in action this weekend at the third annual West Coast Track Challenge. The Lions dominated the competition including West Coast Conference rivals Pepperdine and San Diego.

LMU Men's team won every event they contested as well as setting a school record in the distance medley relay (10:38:94). Junior Keyon Mitchell accounted for the most team points in winning both the 100m (11.53) and the 200m (22.95) in personal record times. Seniors Lino Almeida (3000m, 8:53.51), Trevor Wiseman (1500m, 4:03.10), and freshmen Oran Arms (800m, 1:59.62) and Wesley Taylor (400m, 53.37) were also winners in their respective events.

On the women's side freshman Cassandra Salazar continued to impress by winning the 3000m in a new personal best of 10:09.15. She is now two-for-two on the season, also winning the 3000m in last weekend's season opener at the Pomona Pitzer. Other highlights on the women's side included a new personal best in the 3000m by freshman Brieanna Delaney who ran 10:35.26 and finished 3rd overall. Junior Brooke Lademan finished 2nd in the 1500m in a time of 4:57.15

"Overall I would say our performance was mixed at best," commented Head Coach Scott Guerrero. "The conditions were definitely not ideal. It was hot, windy and the meet was less competitive than in previous years. But this did give us another opportunity to get out and compete as we prepare for bigger meets on down the road. Plus it's always fun to get out and compete against our WCC rivals."

LMU Track and Field Team will next be competing at the Ben Brown Invitational on March 6-7. Hosted by Cal State Fullerton, the meet is a two day event with the Lions competing in the "individual" section on March 7.
