Lions Smoke Personal Records at Ben Brown Invitational
Junior Brian McDonald breaks school record in 5000m and sophomore Tara Erdmann qualifies for the NCAA West Regional.

Fullerton, Calif - LMU Men's and Women's Track team blazed past previous records at the Ben Brown Invitational. Hosted by Cal State Fullerton, 15 out of the 22 Loyola Marymount participants set personal bests on Saturday.
In the women's 5000 meters LMU set 8 personal bests as well as captured 7 of the fastest times in school history. Once again Tara Erdmann led the Lions. Erdmann captured the 5th fastest time in the 5000 meters at Ben Brown as well as the 2nd fastest time in school history. The sophomore from Arizona broke her previous best of 16:47.45 with a new personal record of 16:46.31. Erdmann's new time also qualified her for a spot at the NCAA West Regional on May 29 in Eugene, OR.
Annie Holden, Cassandra Salazar, Brieanna Delaney, Brooke Lademan, Cynthia Chaidez, and Marissa Diehl captured six of the best times in school history. Juniors Holden and Lademan ran the 6th and 9th best times on the list. Annie Holden ran the 6th best time in 17:54.27 beating her previous best of 18:18.42 set at Ben Brown in 2008. Brooke Lademan beat her previous time of 18:59.72 with the 9th best time in school history of 18:03.48.
This was the first time Salazar, Delaney, Chaidez and Diehl ran the 5000 meters. Cassandra Salazar ran the 7th best time in school history with a 17:54.85. Brieanna Delaney, the 2008 WCC Freshman of the Year in Cross Country, ran the 8th best time in 17:57.75. Sophomore Cynthia Chaidez finished the race right behind Lademan in section 2 of the race. Chaidez finished in 18:04.96.85 for the 10th best time in school history. Freshman Marissa Diehl was not that far behind completing the race in 18:24.96 for the 12th best time.
Shea Franklin also completed a personal best in the 5000 meters. Franklin finished the race in 19:20.92 beating her previous best of 19:33.56 achieved last year at Ben Brown.
LMU Women's team also gained personal bests in the 1500 meters. Freshmen Madeline Hess-Maple and Kylie Hunsaker ran the 12th and 13th best times in school history. Hess-Maple ran the course in 4:58.82 for the 12th best time while Hunsaker was right behind her with a time of 4:59.90 beating her previous best of 5:04.5 at the 1500m time trial.
On the men's side LMU set 5 personal bests in the 5000 meters. Both senior Trevor Wiseman and junior Brian McDonald broke the school record in the 5000 meters on Saturday. McDonald now holds the school record for the fastest time in the 5000 meters with a new personal best of 14:41.32. Wiseman is right behind him in second place with a time of 14:42.57.
Freshmen Phillip Benavides, Daman Coffman and Michael Herrera established personal bests in the 5000 meters. Benavides ran a 15:13.72 for the 6th best time in school history while Coffman captured the 15th best time with a 15:49.28 in section 5 of the race. Herrera ran his best 5000 meters in 16:31.04.
Loyola Marymount's Track and Field team looks to continue this season success on Friday, March 20 at the UC Irvine Classic in Irvine, CA. Race time is still to be determined.
