LOS ANGELES - LMU men's and women's track upperclassmen set eight career-best marks while a number of solid debut performances in the 1,500m were also had Saturday at the Cal State L.A. Invitational.

On the women's side, Danielle Shanahan, Grace Graham-Zamudio and Kayla de Bondt finished two-three-four in the 1,500m run with de Bondt setting a personal best time of 4:34.04. Shanahan finished in 4:31.54, shy of her 4:25.32 PR, and Graham-Zamudio took third overall in 4:32.90.

The Lion women placed five in the top 10, including Kelli Sugimoto taking sixth (4:36.76) and Samantha Garcia in 10th (4:45.56). Along with de Bondt, Lorena Garcia (4:54.63) and Alexandra Young (5:06.74) also set PR times in the 1,500m.

 

 

Shanahan, Graham-Zamudio and de Bondt doubled up on the day, also running in the 800m. Shanahan set a PR time of 2:15.41, taking fourth overall, while de Bondt placed third in 2:14.39. Graham-Zamudio was eighth in 2:19.29.

For the men, Lace Capel, Michael Duncan, Daniel Gibson and Grant Lapovich all set career-best times in the 1,500m. Gibson placed sixth overall in 4:01.26, while Duncan took eighth in 4:02.11. Capel's PR time of 4:05.96 was good for 17th overall while Lapovich's PR finish time was 4:20.59.

The young Lions also performed well in their 1,500m debut, led by freshman Jack Polerecky taking 10th overall in 4:03.78. Fellow rookie Harry Loasby was 13th in 4:04.26 and a third freshman, Christopher Fredlund was 15th in 4:05.26.

The Lions will return to action Saturday and Sunday, March 13-14, to compete at the Oxy Distance Classic and Ben Brown Invitationa.
