Complete Ben Brown Invitational Results | Complete Oxy Distance Carnival Invitational Results

LOS ANGELES - Kayla de Bondt won the 1,500m run in personal record time and three Lion women placed in the top four in the 5,000m to lead the LMU track teams at the Ben Brown Invitational, hosted by Cal State Fullerton Saturday.

On the men's side, freshman Harry Loasby placed in the top 10 in the 1,500m, achieving a personal record and breaking the Hong Kong National Junior Record, while fellow rookie Jack Polerecky was LMU's top finisher in the 5,000m, placing in the top 10.

de Bondt claimed the 1,500m crown in 4:28.24, slashing six seconds off her pervious best time and setting a mark that ranks in LMU's all-time top five. The sophomore's time was also less than a second off the meet record of 4:27.89, set in 2009 by former LMU Assistant Coach Ali (Mann) Stemm.

In the women's 5k, Danielle Shanahan was the top collegiate finisher in 16:28.03. Grace Graham-Zamudio was right behind her in 16:33..83, followed by Kelli Sugimoto in fourth overall in 16:40.25. Senior Samantha Garcia was also a top-10 finisher in a personal record time of 17:43.55.

 

 

Loasby's 3:58.98 record time in the 1,500m was good for eight place overall. Classmate Christopher Fredlund took 10th in 3:59.43.

Polerecky's 14:47.20 time in the 5k was good for eighth and ranks 11th in LMU's all-time record book. Junior Brandon Vientos was the Lions next top finisher in the 5k, placing 11th in 14:54.75.

On Friday at the Oxy Distance Carnival, four Lions competed in the 3,0000m steeplechase. For the women, Kyra Burke placed sixth in 11:45.93, followed by freshman Madelyn Vorgitch in seventh in 11:45.97.

For the men, Michael Vorgitch was seventh in 9:19.55 while Michael Duncan was ninth in 9:25.24. in his first collegiate recorded 3k steeple race.

The Lions return to the track next week, competing in the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational.
