IRVINE, Calif. - Junior Danielle Shanahan highlighted a select group of Lions competing at the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational Saturday, breaking her own LMU record in the 3,000m run.

Shanahan was the lone Lion to race in the 3k at Anteater Stadium, but made the most of her solo run, winning the race in 9:28.52. That mark surpasses her own school record of 9:32.30, set last spring at the West Coast Quadrangular.

Along with Shanahan, five additional Lion women competed in the 800m run, four of whom were competing in the event for the first time this season. Kayla de Bondt placed second in 2:13.33 and Evelyn Gonzalez was sixth in 2:19.27. Chloe Curtis took eighth in 2:19.35. Freshman Ann Kelly and sophomore Marisa Carino made their collegiate debut in the 800m by finishing in times of 2:20.64 and 2:24.25, respectively.

For the men, freshman Koby Pederson placed 12th in a time of 1:55.86 in his 800m debut. Classmate Branden Estrada was 14th in 1:56.24, followed by Nicolas Wells with a time of 1:58.50 and Brian Joerger with a time of 1:59.10.

The full LMU men's and women's track teams return to action on March 25-26, competing in the SDSU Aztec Invitational.
