LOS ANGELES - A busy weekend of racing at both the Mt. SAC Relays and the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State, produced outstanding marks for numerous members of the LMU men's and women's track teams.

While personal records were set up and down the Lion lineups, there was perhaps none bigger than Danielle Shanahan becoming just the third Lion to race a sub-16 minute 5,000m. Competing in the first of two heats of the women's 5k invitational/elite Friday night at Cerritos College (Mt. SAC Relays), the junior trimmed 10 seconds off her previous best mark, finishing 13th in 15:58.79.

The only other Lions to break 16 minutes are all-time LMU record holder Sheree Shea (15:46.62 in 2014) and Tara Erdmann (15:50.20 in 2011). In addition, prior to this weekend's racing, there were just five other runners in the nation who have broken the 16-minute mark this season.

Also setting personal records for the Lion women this weekend were sophomore Maddi Vorgitch in the 5k (17:09.44), sophomore Marisa Carino in the 1,500m (4:46.51), freshman Ann Kelly in the 1,500m (4:49.08), freshman Danielle Nunez in the 1,500m (5:00.60) and senior Kelly Parsons in the 1,500m (4:59.38). Vorgitch dropped nine seconds off her previous best mark while Kelly trimmed nearly seven seconds and Parson's cut more than six seconds off her previous best 1,500m time.

On the men's side, senior Brandon Vientos became just the second Lion to run a sub-30 minute 10,000m, racing to a personal record time of 29:55.37. Senior Lance Capel and junior Grant Lapovich both completed their first career 10k, finishing in 30:37.58 and 31:16.22, respectively.

Freshman Koby Pederson narrowly bested his previous best time in the 3,000m steeplechase, running a 9:30.42 Thursday night at Mt. SAC. Other personal record times for the Lion men were freshman Joey Rodgers in the 5k (16:17.96), freshman Branden Estrada in the 1,500m (3:56.89), freshman Brian Joerger in the 1,500m (4:05.66) and freshman Jordan McLennan in the 1,500m (3:55.17). McLennan had the biggest drop in the 1,500m, cutting four seconds off hit previous best time.

The Lions return to the track on April 22-23, competing at the UCSD Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif.
