Lions Smash PRs, Set Probable Postseason Qualifying Marks

LONG BEACH, Calif. - It was another busy and successful weekend on the track for the LMU men and women who had athletes competing on Thursday and Friday at the Mt. SAC Invitational and Saturday at the Beach Invite.

Grace Graham-Zamudio, Kelli Sugimoto, Kayla de Bondt and Daniel Gibson all achieved personal record times along with top-five LMU marks to pace a quintet of Lions who raced at the prestigious Mt. SAC. The three Lion women also achieved probable NCAA West Regional qualifying times.

Zamudio took third overall in her section of the 10,000m, smashing her own personal record by 19 seconds with a 34:32.02 finish. The mark is also good for the third fastest 10k in LMU history.

Her classmate Gibson achieved the third fastest 10k in LMU men's history in his first career attempt at the distance, finishing in 30:49.24.



de Bondt set a personal record of 4:25.33 in the 1,500m run, also good for fourth in LMU history, while Sugimoto's 16:20.27 finish in the 5,000m was a personal record by 13 seconds and the fifth fastest in LMU history.

Seven Lions also achieved personal best marks at the Beach Invite hosted by Long Beach State. Nicolas Wells (4:05.90), Waseem Radi (4:06.43) and Derek Weber (4:37.95) all set new lows in the men's 1,500m run.

On the women's side, Marisa Carino (4:53.23), Alexandra Young (5:00.62) and Kelly Parsons (5:06.70) achieved personal low times in the 1,500m while Madelyn Vorgitch ran a personal best 17:36.16 in the 5k.

LMU is back in action on Saturday, April 25 at the UCSD Triton Invitational.
