2017 Mt. SAC Relays Day 2 Results | 2017 Beach Invitational Results

Torrance, Calif.
– After a spectacular evening of 10,000 meter debuts on day one Thursday night, day two of the Mt. SAC Relays featured the 5,000 meters with the trio of freshman Hannah Wohlenberg, junior Madelyn Vorgitch, and sophomore Kyla Danforth in the spotlight. As has been the case a majority of the season, Wohlenberg ran another career best of 17:04.34, improving by three seconds on her previous mark. Although her time is still eleventh (11th) on the LMU top-20 all-time list, she inched her way closer to tenth, a mere six hundredths of a second away from Alyssa Bellia.

Vorgitch was also on pace to run a personal best before she was tripped up in the eighth lap of the race. Instinctively, she bounced back and finished just a second short of her career best with a time of 17:10.13. Danforth had a solid race running 17:32.86, which is the second fastest time of her young career.

Long Beach, Calif. – The Lions who did not run at the Mt. SAC Relays ran the 1,500 meters at the Beach Invitational. Of the thirteen performances, six Lions ran career bests. Most impressive was sophomore Branden Estrada who ran 3:51.49. His time leapfrogs him to third (3rd) on the LMU top-20 all-time list behind Weston Strum and Daniel LaCava. He was also second overall amongst all NCAA Division I athletes in the event.

Sophomore Jordan McLennan also improved his ranking on the LMU top-20 all-time list to ninth (9th) running a time of 3:54.70. With McLennan cracking the top-10, three Lions (Estrada, Koby Pederson, McLennan) have run times this season in the top ten. Freshman Ben Davis (4:04.49), sophomore Joey Rodgers (4:09.01) and Junior Mat Holton (4:13.16) all ran personal bests, each improving by a second. On the women’s side, redshirt sophomore Johanna Apelryd improved on her best by four seconds running a 5:19.11.

Next Saturday, the Lions will travel to San Diego to run at the UCSD Triton
