Mt. SAC Relays Results

WALNUT, Calif. - Four LMU track and field athletes competed in the Mount San Antonio College Relays this past Friday and Saturday. Junior Abby Fall and senior Laura Mickelson competed in the 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter, respectively, on Thursday. Freshman Tara Erdmann (1,500 meter) and sophomore Keyon Mitchell (long jump) took part on Friday.

Fall finished 10th in her heat of the 5k, running a 17:27.72. The time proved to be her second best mark all-time, eclipsed only by her mark of 17:10.90 set earlier this season at the Occidental Distance Carnival on March 17.

"Abby's best time coming into this season was 18:05 at the 5k distance, so considering her improvement, she has had a great year for us," Head Coach Scott Guerrero said.

Mickelson led the pack in the 10,000 meter race over the first half of the distance, eventually finishing sixth in the race with a time of 35:33.69. Mickelson ran a 34:53 last year, but was unable to meet the NCAA provisional mark of 35:00 again this season.

Erdmann also finished sixth in her race on Friday, crossing the line in 4:31.27. BYU's Carolyn Quebe won the race with a time of 4:27.34. Quebe was the only runner in the event to qualify for the Regional, beating the 4:27.80 qualifying mark.

Mitchell turned in an impressive performance in the long jump, posting a mark of 6.89 meters to claim second place overall. Gary Lee of Fresno State won the competition with a leap of 7.52 meters. Mitchell edged his nearest competition, Robert Robinson of Cal State Northridge, by .05 meters.
