San Diego - The Loyola Marymount men's and women's track teams had a strong showing at the Triton Invitational hosted by UC San Diego. The Lions set two new LMU records as the spring track season continues.
In the men's 1500m, sophomore Trevor Wiseman continued his assault on his own school record. Running in the middle of the pack for the first two laps, Wiseman moved up to second place and challenged for the lead. Wiseman was unable to catch the leader, but still managed to take another second off his own school record, crossing the line in 3:57.8. Also running strong races were junior Mo Elmi (4:08.13) and freshman Cameron Pagett (4:11.38).
The next record breaking performance came from freshman Jon Hornberger in the men's 100m. Hornberger's time of 11.17 took 0.02 seconds off his own school record. His strong 100m performance came after solid mark of 19'6" in the men's long jump.
The next event for the Lions was the women's high jump. Freshman Gabrielle Hybki had a solid performance with a jump of 5'1.75".
Sophomore Adam Stebbins had a strong finish in the 400m to place fourth in his heat with a time of 50.01. Also competing in the 200m, Stebbins once against finished strong to place third in his heat with a time of 22.76, just off his own school record.
Next on track was the men's 4x100m relay. The team consisting of Hornberger, Stebbins, freshman Keyon Mitchell and senior Dominic Quiller had quality handoffs to aid their strong effort of 44.15.
In the men's triple jump, Mitchell had another successful outing, placing fifth overall with a jump of 45'6.25".
The next Lion to take to the track was Quiller in the men's 400m hurdles, where he ran a quality race to finish in 60.99.
In the women's 3000m, junior Kristina Fernandez led the way for the Lions. In her first attempt at the distance, Fernandez gave a valiant effort finishing with a time of 12:48.82.
Next up for the Lion track team will be the Steve Scott Invitational on April 28th and the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational on April 29th.
