IRVINE, Calif. - As the regular season begins to wind down, the LMU men's and women's track teams had a successful showing at the Steve Scott Invitational, hosted by UC Irvine Friday and Saturday. The Lions turned in a number of personal best times, including a pair of potential NCAA West Regional qualifying marks by seniors Kelli Capel and Kayla de Bondt.

Capel kicked off the weekend by winning the women's 5,000m run in a season best time of 16:24.93. The mark, four seconds shy of her personal best time set at Mt. SAC last spring, currently ranks the 43rd best in the West Region.

On Saturday afternoon, de Bondt turned in the third fastest 1,500m time in LMU history, placing fourth overall in 4:21.88. The time strips nearly two seconds off her own PR and is good for 47th in the West Region as of May 1.

The senior duo were joined by seven other Lion women who set PRs in Irvine Saturday. Samantha Garcia (4:38.38), Anny Kelly (4:38.87), Marisa Carino (4:43.33), Evelyn Gonzalez, (4:45.53), Emily Hubert (4:45.62), Danielle Nunez (4:51.11) and Kelly Parsons (4:58.67) all lowered their best time in the 1,500m run.

LMU's men also had a successful weekend, marked by eight personal record runs.

Sophomore Jack Polerecky took fourth overall in the men's 5,000m in a PR time of 14:37.91. Sophomore Mat Holton also achieved a PR in the 5k, finishing in 15:33.04. Freshman Branden Estrada lowered his mark to 1:54.16 in the 800m while senior Brandon Vientos placed 15th overall in the 1,500m in a PR time of 3:52.91.

Also achieving PRs in the 1,500m were senior Lance Capel (4:00.85), freshman Brian Joerger (4:01.53), sophomore Nicolas Wells (4:05.34) and freshman Joey Rodgers (4:15.33).

The final meet for the majority of the Lions will be the Oxy Invitational on May 7. A select group of Lions may later compete in the West Coast Last Chance Open on May 14 and the Portland Twilight on May 15 as they seek to lower potential NCAA West Regional qualifying times.
