Track Tackles Three Meets in Two Weeks
Tara Erdmann breaks her second school record this season.

Los Angeles, Calif - Loyola Marymount Men's and Women's Track team competed in three meets in the past two weeks. Last Saturday LMU competed in the UCSD Triton Invite while this past weekend the Lions competed at the Peyton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Stanford University and the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational on the campus of UC Irvine.
In the men's 1,500 meters Wiseman captured the No. 8 spot in 3:59.98. Freshman Phillip Benavides was second fastest Lion to finish the event. Benavides just missed finishing in the top ten (11th place) with a new personal record of 4:01.69. Oran Arms and Lino Almedia were the next Lions to finish the race. Arms finished in 32nd place (4:07.11) while Almedia finished next in 43rd place (4:12.02). Scott Donahue completed the event for the Lions with a new personal record this season. Donahue finished with the 49th best time (4:15.76).
Keyon Michtell was the next best finisher for LMU. Mitchell finished 10th overall in the Long Jump (20'11.25).
On the women's side, Chaidez and Diehl led in the Lions in the women's 1,500 meters and 3,000 meters. Chaidez finished in 4:43.53 in the 1,500 meters for her second fastest time this season. Megan Fairley was right behind her, finishing 9th overall (4:44.40). Shea Franklin concluded the race with a new personal best in 2009. Franklin finished 33rd overall with a new personal record of 5:13.84.
Diehl finished in 4:43.53 in the women's 3,000 meters. Kelly McEnerney was the next finisher for LMU. McEnerney finished the race in 11:04.28 for 14th overall. Madeline Hess- Maple ended the race for LMU. Hess-Maple set a new personal best (11:13.75) to finish in 18th place.
Chelsea Wirschem was the only other LMU athlete to finish in the top ten at the UCSD Triton Invite. Wirschem finished 10th overall (34'00. 25) in the triple jump.
At the Peyton Jordan Cardinal Invitational, Tara Erdmann's performance was once again the highlight of LMU track this season. Erdmann broke another school record in the 10,000 meters at Stanford. Already this season Erdmann previously took the school's top time in the 5,000 meters (16:27.48) at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Also for the second time this season, Erdmann broke a school record previously held by Laura Mickelson. Erdmann finished 11th in the 10,000 meters at Stanford with a (34:29.41) shattering the previous school best (34:53.16).
At the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational, Megan Fairley led the Lions in the women's 5,000 meters. Fairley finished the race with the fourth fastest time (17:35.57) and a new personal record this season. Marissa Diehl was the next LMU runner to finish in the finals. Diehl finished 14th overall with a time of 18:54.44.
On the men's side, all three Lions that made the finals in their events set new personal records this season. In the men's 1,5000 meters Trevor Wiseman made the best finish for the Lions. Wiseman finished sixth overall with a new personal best (3:54.17). Brian McDonald was the only other Lion to finish in the finals of that event. McDonald finished 27th overall with a new personal record for the season (4:01.17). Scott Donahue finished 16th overall in the men's 5000 meters. He also set a new personal record with a 15:39.42.
Loyola Marymount Track will be back in action this weekend at the Occidental Invitational. The Lions will travel to Eagle Rock, California to compete on Saturday May 9th.
