Shea Crushes 5K PR, Sets LMU Record

STANFORD, Calif. Sheree Shea smashed her 5K personal record Sunday night at the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford University, highlighting five Lion track athletes who competed over the weekend.
Shea's 15:46.62 time was good for fifth in her section of the 5,000m run Sunday night at the prestigious meet known for its showcase of top long-distance runners. The mark eclipsed the redshirt senior's previous personal best of 16:09.97 by 23 seconds. In addition, the time broke Tara Erdmann's LMU record of 15:50.20 set in 2011.
Fellow senior Weston Strum competed in the men's 5K at Stanford Sunday night, placing third in his section in a time of 13:50.64.
On Friday at the Steve Scott Invitational hosted by UC Irvine, senior Kevin Joerger ran a 3:57.22 1,500m while classmate Dan Smith, competing in his final collegiate competition, finished his 5K race in 15:43.24.
On the women's side, Samantha Garcia raced to a 4:53.28 in the 1,500m.
The full Lion men's and women's squad returns to action May 10, heading to the West Coast Last Chance Meet in San Francisco and the Occidental Invitational in Eagle Rock, Calif.
