LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU men's and women's track teams have wrapped up the 2013 regular-season, competing in a trio of "last chance" meets over the past two weeks, looking to lower their times before the upcoming NCAA Regionals.
On May 4 at the Occidental Invite, Lion highlights included Kevin Joerger improving his career best time in the 5,000m in 14:22.68, which is No. 3 in the LMU all-time best list. The other key highlight from the meet was senior Greg Innes, in the final meet of his career, winning the Section 4 of the men's 1,500m in a season-best time of 3:58.89.
On May 11 at the Azusa Pacific Last Chance Qualifier, Weston Strum was the overall winner in the 1,500m in a time of 3:51.20, while Joerger placed third overall in 3:56.80, a career-best for the junior.
Sarah Vitug, Callie Mulgannon and Sheree Shea all competed in the 1,500m as well, placing first, second and fourth, respectively.
The Lions now wait for Thursday's official posting from the NCAA of the Regional Qualifiers. Expectations are that Shea (5k, 10k) and Caroline Draper (10k) will represent the Lion women while Strum (5k) and Joerger (10k) will become the first Lions on the men's side to earn Regional qualification.
The NCAA West Regional will be hosted by University of Texas at Austin on May 23-25.
