Atlanta, GA - Sophomore Tara Erdmann qualified for her second NCAA Regional event on Friday, adding to her 5000m qualification earlier this year by beating the regional standard in the 1500m at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Athens, GA. Erdmann was one of five LMU runners competing and the only one to attain a qualifying mark.

Erdmann was the only Lion to have already qualified for the NCAA Regionals on May 29, having done so earlier in the year in the 5000m. On Friday, needing to beat the regional qualifying standard of 4:27.80, she squeaked by with a 4:27.47 to finish 11th. In total, 12 different runners in the event met the qualifying standard. The sophomore has also reached the national qualifying provisional standard in the 10,000m, running 34:29 to put herself in the position for a place in the NCAA Nationals.

Seniors Trevor Wiseman and Lino Almeida were both aiming for the NCAA regional qualifying mark of 3:47.80 in the 1500m but neither attained the goal in their final collegiate race. Wiseman, who earlier this year ran a school-record 3:54.17, bettered that mark with a 3:52.78 to place 18th out of 51. Almeida was further back, finishing 44th in 4:08.58.

Next up was the 5000m, with junior Brian McDonald shooting for 14:12.00. None of the 18 entrants qualified, although McDonald ran 14:53.74 for a seventh-place finish.

The fifth LMU runner to compete was freshman Megan Fairley in the 5000m. Despite finishing fourth out of 14, Fairley failed to reach the standard of 16:52.00, running 17:59.85.

Erdmann will now prepare for the NCAA West Regional meet, which start May 29 at the University of Oregon.
