West Coast Invitational Results | Portland Twilight Results

PORTLAND - A handful of LMU men's and women's track athletes competed in a pair of last chance meets over the weekend and a select few now await this week's NCAA West Regional selection.

On Thursday, Maddi Vorgitch (5,000m), Lance Capel (5,000m), Michael Duncan (3,000m steeple) and Brandon Vientos (5,000m) raced at the West Coast Invite in Salem, Ore., while Kelli Capel, Danielle Shanahan and Kayla de Bondt took one more crack at the 1,500m at the Portland Twilight on Saturday.

The lone Lion to lower his/her mark was Kelli Capel, who ran a 4:30.30 personal best in the 1,500m.

 

 

Now the Lions wait.

With the regular season now compete, five Lions rank in the West Region's top 95 in a variety of events. Shanahan is 12th in the 5k (15:58.79), making her a definitely qualifier into the NCAA postseason in that event. The junior also ranks 65th in the 1,500m (4:22.50). de Bondt is 52nd in the 1,500m (4:21.88) while Kelli Capel is 56th in the 5k (16:24.93).

For the men, Vientos is 71st in the 10,000m (29:55.37) and 87th in the 5k (14:11.77) while Michael Duncan is 89th in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:14.94).

Following the declaration period closing on Wednesday, the list of student-athletes, by event, who have been accepted to compete in each preliminary championships competition, plus those who have been accepted to compete in the heptathlon or decathlon at the final championships competition, will be posted on the NCAA's website, Division I, Championships, Spring Sports, Outdoor Track & Field (M/W), by 10 a.m. Pacific time.

The 2016 NCAA West Preliminary Championships will be contested on Thursday, May 26 through Saturday, May 28 on the campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.
