Eagle Rock, Calif. – The LMU Track and Field teams ended their regular season on Saturday evening at the Occidental Invitational.

Senior Maddi Vorgitch ran a personal best time of 16:48.81 for 5,000 meters. She was 18th in an elite field of mostly professional runners and the 5th collegian in the race. Vorgitch will return for the Lions 2018 Cross Country season next fall but before then has aspirations of earning a spot for the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championship Preliminary Round in the 10,000 meters. Her time of 34:41.52 ranks 55th on the West Region Descending Order List and will need to be one of the top 48 declared runners in the event to compete. She will have to wait until Thursday when the declarations are official.

“Maddi is running great right now,” head coach Scott Guerrero said. “This is her fourth career best in her last five races. Now we are in wait-and-see mode.”

Junior Giselle Masedo improved on her 5,000-meter personal best running 18:07.86 and placed 3rd in her section. For Masedo, her time bettered her previous mark by 5 seconds.

Senior Jack Polerecky will compete in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Preliminary Round. Polerecky’s time of 29:18.14 ranks him 33rd in the West Region. Polerecky also finished the season 61st in the West Region in the 5,000 meters with his time of 14:03.12. Like Vorgitch, Polerecky will have to wait through the declaration period to find out if he will have the opportunity to compete in the event. Junior Koby Pederson, who ran 14:14.00 at the Mt SAC Relays, will likely come up short of making the Preliminaries. He is currently ranked 94th in the West Region.

The NCAA West Region Preliminary Round will be held from May 24-26, 2018 in Sacramento, Calif. at Hornet Stadium. The 10,000 meters will be on Thursday May 24 at 9:00 p.m. for the men and 9:40 p.m. for the women. The 5,000 meters will be Saturday May 26 at 8:05 p.m. for the men.
