Complete 5,000m Results
EUGENE, Ore. - Redshirt junior Tara Erdmann made it two-for-two in qualifying for the NCAA National Championships by placing fourth in the 5,000m Saturday afternoon at the NCAA West Regional meet at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Erdmann, who on Thursday night qualified in the 10,000m, becomes the first female LMU outdoor trackster to qualify for two national events.
Erdmann (Tucson, Ariz.) continues to rewrite the LMU record books and will appear at her third consecutive NCAA Outdoor Track National Championships. Already the first Lion to qualify for three events in the same season at the regional level, Erdmann was aiming to become the first to move on to nationals in two separate competitions. Following her seventh-place finish in the 10,000m, Erdmann returned to the track at 3:05 p.m. on Saturday for the first of two heats in the 5,000m. Needing to place in the top-five in her heat for automatic qualification, she did just that, crossing the line in fourth position in 16:08.27. Her time was the tenth-fastest overall from the two heats and the fourth-fastest in LMU history.
A three-time All-American, Erdmann will shoot for a fourth All-American honor when she races the NCAA National Championships June 8-11 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. The 10,000m is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8 with the 5,000m set for 8:10 p.m. on Friday, June 10.
