Erdmann Places 14th at NCAA West Regional
Sophomore comes up short in qualification for NCAA Nationals
May 29, 2009
Eugene, OR - Sophomore Tara Erdmann ran to a 14th place finish in the 5000m at the NCAA West Regional, contested Friday at the Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, OR. Erdmann's placing put her just outside the qualification level for the NCAA Nationals.
The pace was slow for all 28 entrants. Entering the event with the 13th-fastest time in the region, Erdmann crossed the line in 17:09.22, seven seconds out of 12th place. The top five finishers automatically qualified for the NCAA Nationals, with places 6-12 entered into a pool where the top times nationally would be selected for the national championships.
Erdmann still has a chance to be selected for the NCAA Nationals in the 10,000m, an event that is not competed at the regional level. Erdmann's best time this year, 34:29.1, is the 27th-fastest in the nation this year. Historically, the top 27 runners are chosen to compete in the NCAA National Championships.
