Erdmann Places 16th at Nationals
Sophomore gains highest-ever finish by Lion

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Tara Erdmann capped her outstanding sophomore season by placing 16th in the 10,000m at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track National Championships on Friday at McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Erdmann was making her first-ever appearance at the NCAA Championships and registered the highest finish by a Lion runner, topping Laura Mickelson's 22nd place in the 5,000m in 2006.
Erdmann (Tucson, AZ) entered the event having recorded the 23rd-best time in the nation this season, a school-record 34:29.41. On Friday, she improved seven places, crossing the finish line in a time of 35:16.59 in a race won by Danette Doetzel of Providence in 33:25.71.
Erdmann completed the first lap in 1:23.26 and never had a lap slower than 1:27.74. Her fastest lap was the second, which she completed in 1:19.15.
